The BlackHouse

The BlackHouse

Building with Purpose, Creating with Soul

The construction of BlackHouse became an act of alchemy. Industrial materials with past lives in commerce and industry were reimagined, repurposed, transformed. Each shipping container, each reclaimed piece, each creative solution wasn't just about sustainability—though BlackHouse stands as a masterpiece in eco-building. It was about honoring the interconnection between all things: past and present, human and nature, function and art.

As the structure took shape across 54 acres of forest land, streaming waters, wildflower meadows, and gardens, something remarkable emerged. BlackHouse wasn't sitting on the land—it was nestled into it, as if it had always belonged there. Ten private bedrooms, each with its own deck overlooking different aspects of the property. Eight bathrooms thoughtfully integrated into the flow of the space. Two thousand square feet of flexible communal areas where indoor comfort meets outdoor beauty at every turn.

The Build

Where Our Dreams Became Reality

We brought everything we knew how to do—art, food, movement, stillness, nature connection, sustainable building—and poured it into one extraordinary place. The saltwater pool that reflects the sky. The wood-burning sauna that invites deep release. Multiple fire pits where strangers become friends under the stars. Every lounge area, every thoughtfully placed element designed for what we'd discovered we needed most: rest, relaxation, community, and genuine connection.

Wild Nature Retreats emerged not from a business plan, but from a calling. We wanted to create a safe, creative space where people could experience and explore joy, peace, connection, rest, and the freedom to truly just be their natural selves. Because we are nature—wild, complex, and beautiful. And we believe that's a very good thing.

BlackHouse stands today as both an architectural achievement and a living invitation. Located on Anishnabeg territory near Cookstown and Alliston in Simcoe County, Ontario, it's a cultural experience unlike any other—a place where the energy of repurposed materials grounds you while simultaneously inspiring your boldest dreams.

We built BlackHouse because the forest taught us something essential: we are as wild as the flowers, the birds, and the untamed pathways of nature. And when we remember that—when we reconnect to the natural world, to others, and to ourselves—transformation becomes not just possible, but inevitable.

This is where we lived our boldest dream. Now we invite you to live yours.
